Do I need to take a placement test before I register for an ESL class?
Answer
Before you register for an ESL course look at the ESL home page at https://www.cerritos.edu/esl/
They have posted the following:
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PROGRAM, PLEASE COMPLETE THE SELF-REPORT (SRT) AND GUIDED PLACEMENT TOOL (GPT) THROUGH THE ASSESSMENT WEBSITE OR CONTACT ONE OF OUR FACULTY MEMBERS.
By doing the assessment you will know which ESL class best suits your needs.
The Assessment Center webpage has additional information about the assessment at https://www.cerritos.edu/assessment-center/
It gives the following information:
ANY STUDENT WHO NEEDS A PLACEMENT IN ENGLISH/ESL AND MATH,
CAN TAKE THE SRT (SELF-REPORT TOOL) ONLINE.
What is the Self-Report Tool (SRT)?
The SRT is an online questionnaire which provides new, first-time college students with the opportunity to place directly into transfer level English, ESL or Math courses based on their United States high school records. There are two sections: one for English/ESL and one for Math.
How long does it takes to complete the SRT?
The SRT takes about 15-25 minutes to complete.
